Sue's world ... haunts her, giving and taking the things she wants in a constant push-and-pull where Sue tries desperately to keep close to them and take gentle care of them, following impulses in service of a pointedly desperate desire to be the woman she dreams about getting to become in her adulthood: a mother and the beloved bride of a kind wife.

Includes four chapters:

• pretty on the inside: Sue explores an orphanage.
• fading out of focus: Sue and Esther try to get medicated.
• sweet 4 a season: Sue and Esther go to the graveyard.
• only chance to feel again: Sue drives to Provo.
